On June 11, 2022, The Nuclear Power Institute team and TWC Commissioner Julian Alvarez III joined together with families to celebrate the 2022 Clean SMARTS Master Class Finale Competition Winners Tristen Pool an 11th grader from Granbury High School, Alyssa Martinez a 6th grader from Lorenzo De Zavala Middle School, and Carter Ponce a 7th grader from Dr. Javier Saenz Middle School. These Finale Winners were celebrated and provided their outstanding awards and prizes for their impressive Finale submissions.

Each year, NPI offers a “Clean SMARTS Master Class” which is a FREE six-episode mini-series that provides an opportunity to hear, learn, and be inspired by local, state, federal, and international experts in their areas of expertise. These Experts share their knowledge and skills, providing opportunities to acquire skills, up-skill, and even learn the importance of retraining in an age of constant change. Be on the “lookout” for our 2022-2023 Master Class releasing in September.

Commissioner Julian Alvarez III was also presented with an acknowledgment for his excellent contributions as a 2022 Clean SMARTS Master Class Experts. Commissioner Alvarez III assisted us in presenting awards and shared his workforce knowledge and encouragement with the winners and their families.

First-place winner is Tristen Pool, an 11th grader at Granbury High School. Tristen created a Product Concept. His product is titled, "A Novel Medical Blockchain and Federated Learning Approach for Machine Learning Pipeline Security." His product will help prevent Cyberattacks on important and private information in hospitals.

Second-place winner is Carter Ponce, a 7th grader at Dr. Javier Saenz Middle School. Carter created a Product Concept titled "Save a Life." His product alerts the user when they are in danger of a heat stroke.

Third-place winner is Alyssa Martinez, a 6th grader at Lorenzo De Zavala Middle School. Alyssa created an Ambassador Framework titled "Shaping Our Future." Her mission is to support at-risk students in discovering their potential career paths.
