On Wednesday, June 28, Tilly made her debut in Palacios, Texas, at Central Elementary where she was welcomed by a cafeteria full of 150 Pre-K – 2nd grade students and 49 educators, parents, and community members. Special guests included a public librarian, Texas Workforce Commissioner Aaron Demerson, South Texas Project Nuclear Operating Company (STP) CFO Savannah Cornelius and Stephanie Rodgers, and Director of Workforce for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Vanessa Malo.
Dr. Valerie G. Segovia, NPI director, “We created Tilly Loves TRTLs to enhance Pre-K to 2nd grade outreach programming focusing on early workforce development awareness, while encouraging reading and curiosity. NPI acknowledges the importance of reaching children during their educational foundation years when reading fluency and comprehension attainment are vitally important, setting the trajectory of students’ success into adulthood and ultimately affecting their workforce opportunities. This series of seven stories and videos are intended to be encouraging, inspiring, and aspirational of the “What I can be when I grow up?” possibilities.” To find out where Tilly will be visiting next, follow Tilly’s Activity Calendar at: https://bit.ly/43oUeMM
