On Wednesday, November 10th, all 53 of the Palacios Junior High WIT Jr members took a trip to the beautiful Texas A&M Galveston campus! They learned about the 14 degrees Texas A&M Galveston offers while seated inside the Powell Marine Engineering Complex, and met the Vice President of Texas A&M and former astronaut, Colonel Michael E. Fossum.
That same day, Captain Augusta Roth shared information about the Marine Transportation department and what career opportunities are available by going through this program. One of the highlights from this trip for the students was the chance to go through the 3 different ship simulators! These ship simulators are used to train students on campus as they pursue maritime degrees, much like how the NESC TRIGA reactor trains students to become future nuclear reactor operators. The students also had the opportunity to visit the machine shop and Marine Propulsion labs at the A&M Galveston campus.
